Dash cam turns on momentarily, then powers offUpdated 2 months ago

Overview

If your dash cam turns on and then shuts off after a short time, this is usually related to power supply, wiring, SD card, or voltage detection, not a fault with the camera itself.

Please follow the steps below in order.

Step 1: Confirm the correct power source

Make sure you are only using the power cables supplied by us. The dash cam requires a full 12V power source.

USB or USB-C ports (such as those behind the rear-view mirror) only supply 5V and will not power the camera correctly.

Step 2: Test using the 12V plug

If your camera is hardwired, temporarily disconnect the hardwire kit and power the camera using the supplied 12V plug.

If the issue stops when using the 12V plug, this indicates a wiring or fuse selection issue, not a camera fault.

Step 3: Check hardwire fuse selection

When hardwired, the wiring must be:

  • Yellow wire connected to a constant 12V fuse

  • Red wire connected to a fuse that turns strictly on and off with ignition (ACC)

If the ACC fuse flickers, pulses, is delayed, shared with other systems, or is CAN-controlled, the dash cam may repeatedly power on and off or shut down shortly after startup.

⚠️ Important: Some modern vehicles do not provide a clean ACC circuit in the interior fuse box. This is normal vehicle behaviour and does not indicate a fault with the dash cam. In these cases, the dash cam will still operate correctly using the supplied 12V plug, or when hardwired by a qualified installer who can source a suitable ignition signal elsewhere in the vehicle.

Step 4: Isolate the rear camera

While using the 12V plug, disconnect the rear camera from the 6-pin connector and power only the front camera.

If the issue stops with the rear camera disconnected, this indicates a voltage drop is being detected when the rear camera is connected.

Step 5: Check the SD card

If the issue still occurs, remove the SD card completely from the camera and power it on again.

If the camera stays on with the SD card removed, the SD card is likely corrupted or fragmenting and needs to be reformatted or replaced.

Important notes about SD cards

  • Micro SD cards are consumable items

  • We recommend formatting the SD card once a month

  • A failing SD card can cause power cycling, recording issues, and shutdowns

If the issue continues

Please contact support and let us know:

  • Whether the camera fully powers off or only announces “start recording / stop recording”

  • Whether the behaviour changes with the rear camera disconnected

  • Whether the behaviour changes with the SD card removed

  • Whether the issue occurs on both hardwired and 12V plug power

This information allows us to diagnose the issue quickly and accurately.
